fleurstof began as a series of experiments in my backyard using a few thrift store stockpots, a two burner camping stove, and the flowers growing in my garden. As an avid gardener, former flower farm hand, and creative with a lifelong colour obsession, this craft has felt like a perfect and natural place to land. I instantly fell in love with the sensory and tactile experience, from the specific aromas each plant gives off, to the many colours my hands are stained at the end of the day.

I’ve heard many natural dyers refer to colour produced from plants as living. It has depth, it shifts, it has a dynamism that cannot be replicated with artificial colour dye. In learning to dye with natural matter, I have come to see how alive colour can be. I love how the vibrancy of the pigment interacts with the natural fluidity of silk to make truly astounding colours. Being a grower as well, there is the added delight of producing colour all the way from seed-tending and waiting, until it’s time to extract the colour.

I care deeply about sustainability and the health of local ecosystems. I am a firm believer in reusing, repurposing, composting and regenerative garden practices. fleurstof brings together my love of vibrant beauty with these commitments to conscientious and local production.
